awarded to enlisted soldiers and junior officers only who actually
served in combat during World War II. The criteria for this award was
so stringent that, after the war, the Army reviewed the criteria and
decided that anyone who earned the CIB during the war had also met the
criteria for the Bronze Star Medal and made the award automatically.
